Holy Week

Happy Palm Sunday!

My plan this morning was to wake up early and take a train out to the 'burbs to visit my favorite parish, which I used to frequent before moving to the city. Of course I slept through the alarm and was disappointed in myself. Oh, Catholic guilt! I decided to visit a local city church that I discovered last month... It's larger than I like, but the priest and the community are both very nice.

I love Palm Sunday. It's one of my favorite Masses. It's made even better when there is beautiful, early-spring weather, like today, for the procession outside.

This morning, as Father John was walking amongst the parishioners and blessing the palms, he got me right in the eye with Holy Water. That water is cold, and combined with the 40-degree temperature outside, it made me startle and jump pretty badly. I heard a few people behind me giggle, and then I started giggling, too. Giggling in church -- another essential part of Catholicism!

The rest of Mass was beautiful, and it reminded me that there is much of which to be prayerful and mindful this week. Next Sunday will be the Easter celebration! I am looking forward to another beautiful Mass, family time, and some Cadbury mini eggs! I'll also get to indulge in some Fresca or Canada Dry Ginger Ale for the first time in 40 days -- I gave up soda for Lent! We'll have our annual Easter Egg fight, too... Stay tuned for details on that fun, family tradition!
